About Amanda

I am an LPC, Licensed Professional Counselor, and Board Approved Clinical Supervisor in VA with a MEd. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I studied Psychology at UVA and began working with children and teens in mental health as a QMHP in 2011 in a variety of roles and settings. I returned to school at the University of Lynchburg and completed my MEd in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2018, and I became licensed two years later.

I specialize in working with mothers, first responders, and children (ages 4+) who struggle with perinatal mental health, trauma, work-life balance, and life transitions.

I’m trained in a variety of evidence-based practices to address trauma, including EMDR (with a specialization for children), Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and trauma-sensitive yoga. I believe therapy should be flexible and adaptable, using techniques that have been shown to work in research and that match your unique needs. I’m a big believer that laughter can be healing, too, and I appreciate those moments in counseling.

I am passionate about this work because I believe everyone deserves to feel joy and experience healing. I love seeing clients discover their inner strength and resilience, and I feel honored to be a part of their journey. I know people are ready to end counseling when they start to practice the skills we rehearsed in counseling on their own, whether it's setting healthy boundaries or replacing anxious thoughts. Most importantly, my goal for clients is that they begin to see a positive future for themselves and look forward with hope.

What to expect

In our first few sessions, you can expect a warm and comfortable environment where you feel comfortable to be yourself. We'll work together to identify your goals and develop a plan that feels right for you. Don't worry about "therapy homework" – I usually don't assign it unless you want it! You can expect to learn practical coping tools and have choices for healing. We will find what works best for you.

I offer both in-person and telehealth sessions via a confidential video call.
