About Amanda

Qualifications:

I studied Psychology at the University of Virginia in 2010. I earned a Master’s of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Lynchburg in 2018.

I am an LPC, Licensed Professional Counselor, and Board-Approved Clinical Supervisor in Virginia.

Certifications:

I’m trained in a variety of evidence-based practices to address trauma.

I am certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and I am a CIT (Consultant in Training).

I am certified in TF-CBT (Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)

I’m certified in TCTSY (Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga)

I believe therapy should be flexible and adaptable, using techniques that have been shown to work in research and that match your unique needs. I’m a big believer that laughter can be healing, too, and I appreciate those moments in counseling.

Experience:

I began working with children and teens in the mental health field in 2011 in a variety of roles and settings. After completing my MEd, I began working with outpatient therapy and served as a clinical and administrative supervisor for several years. After starting my own family in 2020, I developed a passion for Perinatal Mental Health. Then in 2022, I began working with Impact Living Services’ First Responder program and found I loved working with them too.

I am passionate about this work because I believe everyone deserves to feel joy and experience healing. I love seeing clients discover their inner strength and resilience, and I feel honored to be a part of their journey.

What to expect

In our first few sessions, you can expect a welcoming environment where you feel comfortable being yourself; dark humor is most welcome. We'll work together to identify your goals and develop a plan that feels right for you.

Don't worry about "therapy homework" – I usually don't assign it unless you want it. You can expect to learn practical tools for coping with stress and gain insight about why certain patterns may recur in your life. I don’t just point out the problem. I help you understand where it comes from, the barriers that get in your way for solving it, and then I introduce you to interventions that solve it for long-term healing. My goal is to work myself out of a job so you no longer need me.

I know people are ready to end counseling when they start to practice the skills we rehearsed in counseling on their own, whether it's setting healthy boundaries or replacing anxious thoughts. A lot of times, clients run out of things to talk about. Most importantly, my goal for clients is to begin to see a positive future for themselves and look forward with hope.

I offer both in-person and telehealth sessions via a confidential video call.
